Jesus be magnified in me!
He must increase, but I must decrease.
John 3:30 (NASB)
In our world, especially amongst youth, there is a popular trend of picking role models. They select role models based on style, influence, success, popularity, personality and wisdom. They think that if they choose the right role model then they can simply emulate them and be successful. Should these role models fall or fail, their confidence will get affected.
As believers we only have One whom we can confidently follow in life; Jesus Christ. He is the author and finisher of our faith to whom we must always look up to. We will never find someone more wise, successful, composed, charismatic and steadfast like Jesus. He never changes like others but He remains the same yesterday, today and forever.
John the Baptist had the right perspective about this role model: that, Jesus must increase and that he himself must decrease. If you understand the nature of Jesus, you will have only one desire - to be more like Jesus. You do not have to strive to become like Jesus because you are being made into His likeness by the Holy Spirit. Walk in that reality and the Holy Spirit will enable you become more like Jesus.
